Saint-Lazare, Quebec’s Brooke Massie wins the top prize today at the Bromont CCI4*-S which held at the historic Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park, the venue for equestrian events of the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
“I didn’t really expect to win. I was just wanted to give her a positive ride. It was a big course, lots of combinations, challenging” said Brooke of her top placed finish.
Brooke Massie who is coached by Colleen Loach and riding a little 15.1hh off the track thoroughbred mare, Serendipity finished the day on a score of 45.50 ahead of riders representing Ireland, Australia, Ecuador, the US plus a bunch of fellow Canadians.
No stranger to International competition, Dunham, Quebec resident Colleen Loach who has just returned from representing Canada at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru went one to finish first and second in the CCI3*-S in the division.
Colleen’s second place ride in the CCI3*-S went to Peter Barry’s Dutch Warmblood gelding, Foreign Quality (Badger). The eight-year-old horse, born in Holland was purchased through Irish rider, Tim Bourke. First place went to her other ride in the division was Vermont (Monty) a Hanoverian gelding.
Speaking with Peter Barry about Colleen and the rides he said “what I really liked to see was Monty today just jumping those cross-country jumps out of stride, going forward, looking at them, not having to slow down or set up a lot. Colleen rode it beautifully. He is maturing, he is still a young horse” further Peter said of Colleen and Monty “they were going forward, it was fun to watch, I am very happy for both of them”.
Third placed in the CCI3*-S went to another local Quebec rider, Melissa Boutin of Ascot Corner and her 10-year-old Zweibrucker gelding, EWSZ Jalando making it a Quebec sweep in the division.
The CCI3*-S Under 25 went to dressage leader, Alexa Gartenberg of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania riding her own Louis M on a final score of 42.70. Louis M is a 14-year-old chestnut Rheinlander gelding previous ridden by Cornelia Dorr.
Sloane Pierpont of New Canaan, CT took home the red ribbon for the win riding Indie to an almost faultless with just .40 added to her dressage score today on cross-country.
Many will recognize Indie as a horse that Jennie Brannigan of Kennett Square, PA use to compete successfully for Nina Gardner. Indie (Vechta x Indulga) is a fourteen-year-old bay Anglo European gelding.
The last of the FEI divisions to finish the day, the CCI2*-S Under 25 was won by Calli Lipping of Bethesda, MD riding Wild Affair to a final score of 40.0. Owned by the rider, Wild Affair (Black Tie Affair x Wild Magnolia) is a 12-year-old grey thoroughbred mare.
In the Open Preliminary Cochranville, Pennsylvania’s Isabelle Bosley on Night Quality (Millbrook) took the day.
I wasn’t out to make the time, I was out to have a good run with him, a confident run.” said Isabelle speaking of Millbrook. This a new horse for the rider, and Isabelle feels that they are both a little green at the level.
Isabelle who has been working for Lillian Heard for about 5 years now will be hoping on a plane shortly as they are both expect to be at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in a couple of weeks for Lillian to compete the at the 5*.
Open Training, the last division of the whole weekend went to Claudia Iannuccilli of Wentworth, QC riding Campaigning, a 10-year-old thoroughbred gelding to finish on their dressage score of 31.40.
Prizes for a win in any FEI division at Bromont CCI-S include a free entry in any of the FEI divisions in 2020.
In recent years the Bromont CCI has been a favourite location for both Canadian and US final team selection trials, developing athlete activities such as the USEF/USET Foundation North American Futures Team Challenge and the Bromont Rising Program.
